IGEL Demonstrates the First Multiprotocol "System on Chip" Multimedia Thin Client for the UK Channel
Reading, UK. June 13, 2012. IGEL Technology, Germany's leading manufacturer of thin clients, will demonstrate its first multiprotocol System on Chip (SoC) thin client at channel events around the UK in July. The IGEL multiprotocol SoC thin client has been designed to offer the latest multimedia performance on an entry-level device - the new 4th generation IGEL UD2 model series.
Notable for its small size, low power consumption and exceptionally high multimedia performance, the IGEL device features the ability to play full-screen HD videos and supports Microsoft RemoteFX, Citrix HDX and HDX 3D. It is expected to come to market by the end of Summer 2012.
Already proven in mobile and embedded applications such as smartphones and tablet computers, ARM technology will now be used in IGEL thin clients to bring the same advantages of high performance, energy efficiency and small size. The integrated DSP from Texas Instruments accelerates the processing of protocols such as Microsoft RemoteFX and gives the new SoC device a level of multimedia performance comparable to that of the top models available in the thin client sector. This high performance includes the capability to display full-screen HD video as well as render complex graphical content such as Windows Aero effects and PowerPoint presentations, as well as rich media by means of Flash Player.
In keeping with IGEL's Universal Desktop strategy, the new SoC thin client is not limited to use with only one specific desktop virtualization solution. To ensure the greatest possible range of applications, it not only supports the Microsoft RemoteFX protocol but also Citrix ICA with HDX. Other standards will be integrated as they become available.
In addition to the new thin client, IGEL will also be demonstrating its new hot-desking technology IGEL Shared Workplace and its High Availability platform for IGEL's Universal Management Suite at the IGEL Power Hour events in July.
The thin client Shared Workplace feature, which can be separately licensed, allows user-dependent device configuration and is designed for shift worker or roaming user environments. In addition, the High Availability feature, which is a program extension of the new IGEL Universal Management Suite (UMS) 4.0 remote management software, brings high availability to thin client management. The optional High Availability UMS extension is primarily intended for those customers with large IT environments and scenarios in which failsafe operation of the UMS is of mission-critical importance. Available immediately, the UMS now includes five test licenses for High Availability.
"With these new software and hardware innovations, IGEL is once again setting the industry standard for desktop computing. By attending our Power Hour events, new and existing channel partners will be able to see first hand the new hardware and software services that IGEL will be offering over the coming months and be well positioned to take advantage of our customer-focused solutions," said Simon Richards, Managing Director at IGEL UK.
The IGEL Power Hour events are taking place on:
July 2nd Leeds, Royal Armouries
July 4th Bristol, Aztec Hotel
July 5th Reading, Madejski Stadium
