IGEL fastest growing leading thin client vendor, reports analyst IDC

Reading, UK. June 27th, 2013 - IGEL Technology has been recognized as the fastest growing of the top 5 global thin client manufacturers with 10% year-on-year growth in the latest report from analyst group International Data Corporation (IDC). The German dedicated thin client hardware and software vendor was the only manufacturer in the global top 5 to show double-digit growth in the IDC Worldwide Quarterly Enterprise Client Device Tracker report.
In addition to its hardware thin client sales, IGEL is also reporting huge growth in its thin client desktop conversion software, which helps businesses convert old PCs or thin clients from different manufacturers to IGEL desktops at very low cost. This Universal Desktop Converter software (UDC) is increasingly being used by businesses to cost effectively extend the life of their current desktops to deliver a Server-Based Computing architecture or to produce a shorter return on investment when migrating to a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environment. Converted devices can then be used efficiently and securely managed over a network, or over the Internet, using IGEL's Universal Management Suite software, saving IT administration time and money.

Simon Richards, IGEL Technology's Managing Director for UK & Ireland, said: "These latest IDC figures further endorse our approach to offer customers open architecture thin clients that allow them to take advantage of the best back-end IT infrastructure for their business - whether its cloud, virtual or server-based computing. However, the incredible thing about these double-digit growth figures is that they do not take into account the huge number of desktop thin clients we have converted to IGEL-like devices over the past 12 months using our UDC software. We are seeing triple-digit growth in this area with a huge increase in the number of organizations choosing to extend the life of their existing desktop infrastructure by converting them to IGEL manageable devices."

Despite a difficult first quarter, IDC reports that it expects to see thin client year-on-year annual growth of 7% in 2013 with a total of 9.2 million units shipped worldwide in 2017. IGEL is meeting this demand with its latest generation of UD3 and UD5 dual core thin clients, designed to readily handle resource-intensive tasks such as virtual desktops and decoding multimedia content while at the same time being more energy efficient than ever. In keeping with the well-proven IGEL Universal Desktop concept, the new models also support all popular communications protocols such as Citrix HDX, PCoIP and Microsoft RemoteFX.
