In a previous blog post we shared the initial Cloud computing predictions from analysts such as Gartner and Forrester.
Yesterday, Cloud computing gurus R “Ray” Wang and Chirag Mehta came up with excellent 2011 Cloud predictions in a Forbes CIO Central article, so we had to do another post on this subject.
Here is a summary of their predictions:
CIOs will replace most new procurement with cloud strategies
They will start with private clouds as a stepping stone to public clouds
Customers get real about cloud security
Private clouds will be used as a back up to public clouds
We will see the beginning of a transition from best of breed purpose built apps to cloud mega stacks
Apps marketplaces will be the predominant channel for not only the acquisition of apps but also, the request for proposal for custom app development
Customers will demand superior user experience as well as the scale in the SaaS applications
Shift all new custom app development to the cloud
Development-as-a-Service and Platform-as-a-Service will merge
Integration vendors will address process and meta data
Analytical platforms will emerge first in the enterprise, followed by mobile and social features.
Customers demand easier to use and more comprehensive virtualization management tools.
Demand for better access of archival data online.
Their bottom line: “Cloud Adoption Provides A Path To The Next Generation Enterprise”
What are the most important of these predictions in your opinion?
We believe at GetApp.com that App stores will combine apps and integration processes in vertical bundles so businesses can get “off the shelf” a complete solution that meets their specific needs . This in a way is combined in what Ray and Chirag say in their predictions #5, #6 and #10.
