I-O Corporation Announces VMware Certified Thin Clients

Intel Atom-based X16 Windows XPe and L16 Linux Thin Clients certified for use with VMwareTM View 4.5.

Salt Lake City, UT (Vocus/PRWEB) January 20, 2011

I-O Corporation announced that two ProEdgeTM Thin Client models have recently received VMware’s certification for use in a VMwareTM View 4.5 environment and are now listed in VMware’s Hardware Compatibility Guide. In addition to the View 4.5 certification, the ProEdge X16 (Windows XP Embedded) and the ProEdge L16 (Gentoo Linux) models are also listed as being certified with View 4.0 and compatible with View 3.1, View 3.0, VDM 2.1, and VDM 2.0.
“These certifications show our commitment to continually improving our ProEdge thin client product line,” says Matt Brady, President of I-O Corporation. “Being aligned with VMware is very important to our positioning in the enterprise thin client market. When companies large and small consider their desktop virtualization and cloud computing strategies, we want ProEdge thin clients to be a key part of their infrastructure.”
Based on the Intel-atom processor, the X16 and L16 ProEdge models represent the third generation in the ProEdge thin client family. I-O Corporation anticipates that its W716 thin client, based on the Windows 7 embedded platform, will also soon be certified by VMware.
Because of their fanless design and solid-state storage, the ProEdge thin clients can use 1/16th the power normally consumed by a regular desktop PC. Despite the economy, I-O Corporation has most recently seen success in the K-12 Education markets nationally because the schools have implemented energy-saving initiatives. “As we see schools and districts implement virtualized desktops in their computer labs, they immediately reduce their energy consumption,” says Brady. “They not only save money because of using less electricity, they also save money because the infrastructure lasts longer and it takes a smaller IT staff to manage that infrastructure.”
In addition to being a thin client developer and manufacturer, I-O’s Virtualization Technology Services division (ioVTS) has helped school districts and businesses transition from the traditional distributed computing model to a more central virtualized model – including server virtualization.
