Single console management for PCs and Thin Clients Removes a Barrier to VDI adoption

Microsoft Management Summit 2011
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Wyse Technology, the global leader in cloud client computing, today announced its tech preview of Project Seattle at the Microsoft Management Summit 2011, March 21-25 in Las Vegas, NV. Project Seattle is Wyse software enabling supported Windows Embedded thin clients to be managed and imaged by Microsoft’s Windows Embedded Device Manager 2011.

“The market is expected to continue maturing and expanding, as IT executives add choices for their users desktop and computing needs. Companies like Wyse that offer virtualization management solutions can help IT executives improve the management of their virtualized infrastructure.”
With the Wyse software, Windows Embedded Device Manager 2011 will discover Wyse-enhanced Windows Embedded thin clients out-of-the-box, and will provide the same superior imaging and provisioning support Wyse customers are accustomed to. All forms of cloud client computing adoption can be accelerated by making management support for thin clients and PCs easier, and from a single integrated management console.

"One of the remaining barriers to adoption of virtual desktops is the challenge enterprises face with separate products to manage existing PCs, and new thin clients.” said Mohan Prabhala, Director, Product Management, Windows Platforms at Wyse Technology. "Microsoft and Wyse have eliminated this barrier, making it possible to fully manage both types of devices from the same management console, clearing the way for enterprises of all sizes to gain the benefits of Wyse cloud client computing."

Project Seattle is being previewed with Microsoft’s launch of their new product, Windows Embedded Device Manager 2011. Windows Embedded Device Manager 2011 enables OEMs to build software to fully manage embedded devices by extending the capabilities of System Center Configuration Manager 2007.

“Wyse customers expect management simplicity and accelerated deployment; and by utilizing Windows Embedded Device Manager 2011 with Project Seattle, Wyse customers are able to achieve just that,” said Robert Peterson, Senior Product Manager for Windows Embedded at Microsoft. “We are pleased to partner with Wyse on our latest product, Windows Embedded Device Manager 2011 which delivers management capabilities for Thin Clients including write filter handling and through Project Seattle enhanced manageability.”

“The emerging desktop virtualization management software is a market to watch,” according to Frederick W. Broussard, Research Director, Enterprise System Infrastructure Software, at IDC. “The market is expected to continue maturing and expanding, as IT executives add choices for their users desktop and computing needs. Companies like Wyse that offer virtualization management solutions can help IT executives improve the management of their virtualized infrastructure.”

Wyse Thin Clients and Project Seattle technology are featured in the Windows Embedded Device Manager 2011 demo booth featured at MMS 2011 in Las Vegas March 21-25. Additionally Project Seattle will be featured in the Windows Embedded Device Manager 2011 technical session on embedded device integration and management Thursday, March 24 at MMS.
