SOFTWARE DEVELOPER Userful has launched its Multiseat PC sharing software for Linux with added Ethernet compatibility.

Multiseat enables businesses and schools to turn one Linux system into multiple stations using HP's t200 thin client. The software is bundled with the t200, keyboard and mouse for $99.

Tim Griffin, president of Userful said, "The HP t200 thin client combined with Userful Multiseat software provides the highest performance shared computing solution available on the market today."

"The HP t200's support of both Ethernet and USB provides the flexibility to position stations far away from the host computer, or operate without a LAN, making it a very compelling solution for many use cases," he added.
This method allows for quick and low cost deployment of large numbers of work stations. It lets multiple users run different applications on one host computer such as the HP ms6200. Userful said the cost of the computers and thin clients will be recouped within four years through power savings.

The HP t200 can connect to the host via USB but Ethernet LAN is now also an option. Multiseat is restricted to a maximum of 11 machines at present, but Userful said support for 15 will follow. Ministries of education worldwide are eligible for a free 90 day pilot of the system.
