ESG Lab Validates Avere's Data Movement and Disaster Recovery Capabilities in NAS Environments

Report Highlights Avere's Advantage of Migrating Data Without Additional Expense, Disruption or Downtime

PITTSBURGH - August 21, 2013 - Avere Systems, the leader in network-attached storage (NAS) optimization, today announced that ESG Lab has validated the performance of the newest functionality of its industry-leading FXT Edge Filers. This hands-on testing report confirms the power of Avere's FlashMove and FlashMirror features, which make transparent data migration and replication effortless across heterogeneous NAS arrays in local as well as remote environments.

ESG Tests Avere with NAS Devices from EMC and NetApp
In testing, ESG Lab accessed data residing on different NAS devices, including NetApp and EMC Isilon, and created a cloud-based target for disaster recovery. The report highlights how the Avere global namespace and data migration capabilities give administrators the ability to easily add, remove and manage storage devices from multiple vendors and replicate data from one site to another.

Key validation findings include:

·         Ease of Data Movement - ESG Lab was able to seamlessly move data across the test environment.

·         Disaster Recovery - ESG Lab created a mirror to a simulated storage cloud with 150 ms latency.

·         Management - ESG Lab found that configuration and management were built into the GUI, making tasks simple and fast.

"With Avere's FlashMove and FlashMirror functionality, organizations gain the flexibility to select NAS arrays based on price or feature set without worrying about data portability, " said Vinny Choinski, senior lab analyst, ESG Lab.

This new report - along with white paper - Avere Reference Architecture for VMware VDI: Quantifying User Experience and Cost will be available at Avere's booth (#2217) during VMworld - August 25-28 in San Francisco. In addition, the report and white paper can be accessed online:
