AppSense and Ultima Business Solutions Selected to Deliver Scania (Great Britain) Limited UK Dealer System Refresh Project

AppSense, the people-centric computing company, in partnership with Ultima Business Solutions, the IT infrastructure and end user computing specialist, today announced Scania (GB) Limited has adopted the AppSense User Virtualization Platform (UVP) as part of an infrastructure refresh to their UK dealer system.

Daresbury, UK - May 23, 2013 - AppSense, the people-centric computing company, in partnership with Ultima Business Solutions, the IT infrastructure and end user computing specialist, today announced Scania (GB) Limited has adopted the AppSense User Virtualization Platform (UVP) as part of an infrastructure refresh to their UK dealer system, to increase performance management, provide a consistent end user experience for its 1,200 UK based users and extend the value of their existing Citrix XenApp infrastructure.

The AppSense UVP will be used by Scania (GB) Limited, and franchised Scania dealers, to provide a consistent end-to-end user experience and increase performance and control of the company's Citrix and Microsoft-based IT infrastructure. It will integrate Scania's Citrix and Microsoft environments to create personalised workspaces for its employees, irrespective of their location or the device they are using. The AppSense UVP will also allow Scania's IT team to maintain greater control over key computing resources such as CPU, memory, licencing, and storage. This will result in a consistent, high-quality user experience that also reduces infrastructure costs by maximising the number of users per server.

Scania (GB) Limited was looking for a partner to supply a fully-managed desktop infrastructure for both Scania owned and franchised dealers covering the UK. Scania's existing infrastructure was aged and in need of replacing. Ultima Business Solutions Ltd, in partnership with AppSense, was selected to refresh the entire infrastructure; the key driver being to improve user experience with an efficient, consistent environment from the moment a user logs on, to the end of their session, each and every time.

Derek Brooks at Scania, said: "Ultima were selected as our preferred supplier to provide us with a new Citrix farm for our dealer network. One of the key deliverables of the solution was to cut down on user login time. By utilising technologies such as AppSense, we have seen a dramatic reduction in login times for the users of the system along with improved ease of user administration. The feedback from our users is the key to the success of the system and we have had users requesting access to the new system while in the pilot phase due to the performance increase we can now provide."

John Armstrong, Project Manager at Ultima, added: "One of the key drivers for Scania's system refresh project was to create an environment which provides a noticeable improved performance to users, with faster login times. AppSense has been crucial in allowing Ultima's consultants to develop a solution which has cut log in times to less than half, as well as dynamically optimising applications to provide a swift and reliable user experience."

Nick Lowe at AppSense, explained: "Providing a consistent user experience is essential to maintaining employees' productivity. However, providing this while ensuring that physical and virtual desktops are well-managed, secure and flexible enough to meet the changing needs of an organisation can be a significant challenge. By adopting the AppSense UVP, Scania will overcome many of these day-to-day challenges, and will ultimately be empowered to protect its users' service experience."
