IGEL UD5 W7: a robust thin client with Windows Embedded Standard 7

Windows RemoteFX, Aero, Media Player 12 and 4 GB flash memory: the new IGEL UD5 W7 with Microsoft Windows Embedded Standard 7 delivers excellent user experience, flexibility and investment protection.

Reading, UK. 20 October 2011 - The launch of the IGEL UD5 W7 adds a Windows Embedded Standard 7 (W7) solution to the product portfolio of leading German thin client manufacturer IGEL Technology. In addition to Windows Aero, Windows Media Player 12 and native support for Microsoft VDI through Windows RemoteFX, this powerful and extremely energy-efficient thin client is further characterized by its unrivalled versatility and flexibility. The 4GB flash memory provides ample scope for local software to implement offline-capable POS applications or integrate peripheral drivers.

The IGEL UD5 W7 is available exclusively with the Advanced firmware package, which offers IGEL customers an exceptionally wide range of deployment options. Alongside W7 with native RemoteFX client, it features many other software clients, tools and protocols for access to central IT environments. These include legacy host systems such as IBM Mainframe, Microsoft remote desktop services including RemoteApp, private clouds based on Citrix XenDesktop and VMware View or direct access to web services via the integrated Microsoft Internet Explorer. Like all IGEL thin clients, the UD5 W7 also comes the IGEL Universal Management Suite (UMS) management software as standard. This allows device settings and software clients to be configured, administered and managed remotely on a profile basis, saving time and money.

The IGEL UD5 W7 firmware comes with the latest W7 service pack as standard. The current service pack 1 gives IT managers over 1 GB of free flash memory to use as they see fit.

A sound investment: 5-year guarantee for high-performance hardware

The IGEL UD5 W7 comes with an extended 5-year hardware guarantee as well as free firmware updates for a period of up to three years after the product has been discontinued. The high-performance IGEL UD5 W7 hardware with 1.3 GHz VIA Nano processor, VX900 chipset and fast DDR3 RAM facilitates high-level computing and video performance even for multiple, simultaneous applications or demanding multimedia applications. The power consumption of 11 and 1 W (idle / sleep) qualifies the thin client for an "Energy Star" certificate rating. The deployment versatility of the IGEL UD5 W7 is manifest in the numerous expansion options and ports, including a PCI Express (PCIe) slot for fiber optic cards, DVI-I, a display port, a serial interface and a USB interface. An integrated smartcard reader, connectivity feet with integrated parallel port, WLAN or an anti-theft USB port are all available as optional extras.

"The IGEL UD5 W7 combines our latest generation of powerful, efficient thin client hardware with maximum functionality and the user experience of Windows 7," explained Florian Spatz, IGEL Product Marketing Manager. "We offer our customers products that are both future-proof and flexible and backed with an extended 5-year hardware guarantee."
